Cafeteria fare doesn’t have to be hard-scrabble. Kranston & Foley Organic Classic Ketchup kicks up this sandwich that is anything but sloppy.

  • Prep: 10 mins
  • Cook: 30 mins
  • Yields: 8-10 servings

1 1/2 lbs. ground beef, turkey or meat of choice

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

2 tablespoons cornstarch

2 tablespoon olive oil

1 medium red onion, minced

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 ribs celery, minced

1 green bell pepper, minced

6 oz. mushrooms, minced

8 oz. cola, root beer or other sweet beverage

8 oz. Kranston & Foley Organic Classic Ketchup

1/2 tsp chili powder

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Dash of hot sauce, optional

1Season ground meat of choice with salt and pepper in a large bowl. Dust with cornstarch and mix lightly.

2Bring a large skillet to medium-high heat. Add one tablespoon of olive oil and cook ground meat until golden, and remove to clean bowl.

3Add the rest of the olive oil, onion, celery, bell pepper, garlic and mushrooms and a pinch of salt and pepper, cooking on medium heat until golden. Add your liquid of choice and Kranston & Foley Organic Classic Ketchup, scraping off the brown bits from the bottom of the pan. Add Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce if you wish.

4Add reserved meat, stir into the sauce, cooking for about another five minutes or until the thickness tightens up a little. Serve on a toasted hamburger bun with fries, and prepare to feel like a kid again.
